Mini MTC

Stake Youth Conference was this past Friday & Saturday. Since Mel is in the Stake Young Women presidency, we were both there all day both days. It was especially stressful for her & the Stake YW presidency this year, because just a couple of months ago the Young Men presidency was released. So pretty much everything was up to the ladies to plan & organize.

The theme (or whatever you call it) this year was “Mini MTC.” So, the youth went through the whole process of applying to go on a mission. They were all interviewed by their bishops, got their mission calls in the mail, and were assigned companions on the first day. Kids were called to Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, and with Clement & I in the stake, they were able to have kids go on Cantonese-speaking mission (Hong Kong) as well. 🙂

We had a great group of kids, 4 elders & 4 sisters. Even though they are just kids, they still tried to behave like real missionaries for the most part. I have to say, I was also really impressed with their ability in picking up the language. They only had a total of 2 hours of language instructions in 2 days, but they were able to retain much of what they were taught at the end of it. We’re talking about 20-plus vocabulary. That’s pretty impressive. It’s not something that happen often even at the real MTC!

I definitely don’t mind doing it again…well, I guess only if we get more help & support from all the wards & branches than we did.
